The Water Tanks
Out here water is precious, and our home is built around honoring that. Wild Juniper Ranch runs entirely on a dedicated rainwater catchment system. Clean, soft, and collected straight from the sky. What began with a single 10,000-gallon tank has grown into an intentional, sustainable setup that now supports every drop we use inside our home. Our goal is to embrace the beauty of self-sufficiency, and our rainwater system is at the heart of that.
Expanding Our Water Storage
When we moved in, the property had one 10,000-gallon tank which was not enough to get by, let alone enough for a family and the demands of everyday living. We invested in a 40,000-gallon corrugated metal tank imported from Australia, designed to withstand the climate and provide long-term, reliable storage. With 50,000 total gallons of capacity and careful stewardship, we now have the rainwater reserves needed to support our household year-round.

Capturing Every Drop
Our metal roofing and oversized gutter system are engineered to gather as much rainfall as possible from both the home and the garage rooflines. Every storm becomes an opportunity to replenish our tanks, and even a light rain adds hundreds of gallons. We reserve our well water strictly for small irrigation and garden watering, allowing our catchment system to sustain all indoor use. It’s a practical, respectful way of living in harmony with this landscape and a reminder that water, when cared for, can be a renewable gift. Sharing the system has become one of our favorite parts of hosting; guests light up when they learn how it all works, and signing the old tank has become a tradition everyone looks forward to.
