The Wellhouse
and
Well Roosted Chicken Coop
Tucked beneath the trees, our 20-year-old well house has been reimagined as both a utility hub and a charming focal point on the ranch. It still houses the electrical system for our Trinity Aquifer well, but it’s now also home to our Well Roosted chicken coop—a custom 6x8 hen house featuring a HenGear roll-out nesting box and an automatic chicken run door for the run. Along the base, a glowing border of lit river rocks adds warm mood lighting and a touch of magic. This is where we weigh, measure, and mix all of our chicken feed—both for our flock and for sale—making it a central part of Wild Juniper Ranch’s daily rhythm and future plans.
The Dream Coop
Built into our 11x11 wellhouse, Well Roosted is the oversized chicken coop we always dreamed of—designed for comfort, ease, and longevity. Connected to an 11x22 outdoor run, the space is crafted with care using salvaged materials, including a repurposed door found on the property and naturally downed cedar for posts. Inside, we use a deep litter composting method with locally sourced industrial hemp bedding, allowing us to clean the coop just once every two to three years while building rich, natural compost along the way.

Comfort Year-round
With a HenGear roll-out nesting box and full weather protection, collecting eggs is easy no matter the season. The automatic door keeps our flock secure while offering daily freedom to roam the run, and the generous size of the well house-turned-henhouse ensures the girls stay cozy and content year-round. It’s more than a coop—it’s a haven designed with care, function, and the health of our birds in mind.
